This guide has been designed to help Development Managers prepare their building, residents and site teams for the installation of the Parilon Smart Fire Door Monitoring System. Our aim is to deliver the installation with minimal disruption whilst ensuring residents understand what to expect throughout the project.

Your Project Manager will remain your primary point of contact throughout the deployment.

The installation, step by step

1. Preparing your residents

Resident communication is essential. Before installation, we recommend issuing a resident notice explaining why the devices are being installed, when works will take place, the areas affected, the expected duration, and that access to individual apartments is not usually required unless agreed. Parilon can provide a resident communication template.

2. Installer preparation

Before mobilisation, installation partners are trained, RAMS are approved, equipment is prepared, devices are configured, and all project documentation is completed.

3. Site readiness

Before installation begins, resident communications are issued, access and parking are confirmed, working hours are agreed, emergency procedures are reviewed, and all required site inductions are completed.

4. Connectivity preparation

Where required, connectivity improvements are completed before installation, including Wi-Fi optimisation, additional access points or gateways, gateway repositioning, and CAT5 connections. This ensures the system performs reliably from day one.

5. Installation begins

Our engineers will sign in with the Development Manager, establish safe working areas, install temporary signage, maintain clean communal areas, and keep residents informed throughout the installation. Works are completed floor by floor to minimise disruption.

6. Gateway and device installation

Installation includes gateway installation, device installation, commissioning, and functional testing. Most work is completed using hand tools with minimal noise, and all work areas are cleaned before moving to the next location.

7. Testing and commissioning

Every device is tested before handover, including connectivity, battery status, device and gateway communication, data transmission, and event reporting. The system is only handed over once every device has been verified.

8. Go live

Following commissioning, user accounts are activated, the dashboard is enabled, the asset register and user guides are issued, and the building begins active monitoring through the Parilon platform.

What residents can expect

Residents will notice:

  • Engineers working in communal areas.

  • Temporary “Men at Work” signage.

  • Small battery-powered devices fitted to selected fire doors.

  • Minimal drilling where required.

  • Clean working practices.

  • Friendly engineers wearing identification.

Most installations take only a few minutes per door.

Frequently asked questions
