Welcome to the first edition of The Golden Thread, bringing you the latest developments from across Parilon and the world of continuous fire door monitoring. In each edition, we’ll share updates from the field, developments in our technology, news from our Partner Programme and our perspective on the future of fire door compliance.

The Doors That Never Sleep

This summer, we launched The Doors That Never Sleep, supporting student accommodation providers during the quieter period. We created practical resources, including our Fire Door Readiness Guide, to help teams prepare their buildings and strengthen compliance ahead of students returning.

Confidence behind every door

Our next campaign will focus on retirement living, positioning Parilon as the technology that gives operators, residents and families greater confidence in fire door safety. Targeted content and sales materials will help our Installation Partners create new opportunities across the sector.

Pilot schemes underway

Parilon now has multiple pilot schemes underway across student accommodation, local councils, schools and retirement living. These live projects are demonstrating how continuous monitoring can identify risk earlier, strengthen compliance and provide clearer visibility across entire fire door portfolios.

Sensorite Asset Management software

Sensorite Asset Management gives clients and partners a live view of fire door health, helping them identify emerging risks, prioritise action and manage entire fire door portfolios with greater clarity, efficiency and confidence.

What happens between inspections?

Fire door inspections provide a record of condition at a specific moment. Between inspections, doors can become damaged, obstructed or misaligned through everyday use. Continuous monitoring helps building teams identify changes sooner, prioritise investigation and maintain a digital record over time.

Inspection shows how a door was performing; continuous monitoring shows how it is performing now.

Did you know?

In residential buildings over 11 metres, communal fire doors must be checked at least every three months, while flat entrance doors require annual checks. But a scheduled inspection only captures that moment in time. Parilon provides continuous monitoring between inspections, alerting building teams when a door is left open or may no longer be operating correctly.

Warringtonfire: Parilon put to the test

Parilon’s smart fire door device recently formed part of a dual-orientation fire test at Warringtonfire’s Birchwood facility. The doorsets, manufactured by Central Doorset Manufacturing using Marksman door cores, were tested to BS EN 1634-1 for fire resistance and BS EN 1634-3 for smoke control, demonstrating how smart monitoring technology can be incorporated into fire door systems.

Nominal or notional: why does it matter?

Not every fire door in an existing building has certification confirming its fire-resistance performance. Older doors may instead be assessed by a competent person based on their construction, condition, components and installation. Continuous monitoring does not certify nominal or notional fire doors, but once suitability is established, Parilon provides ongoing visibility of changes in operational condition.

Meet the team: Dave Bryan

Dave is Parilon’s Head of Sales and usually the first person you’ll speak to when exploring how continuous monitoring could work across your buildings. He enjoys getting to the heart of a challenge and finding practical ways Parilon can help.

A note from Mark

It’s been an incredibly busy and exciting period for Parilon. With pilot schemes now underway across several sectors, our Installation Partner Network continuing to grow and more organisations recognising the value of continuous fire door monitoring, we’re building real momentum.

This first edition of The Golden Thread gives us an opportunity to share that progress, the lessons we’re learning and the people helping us move forward. Thank you to our clients, partners and everyone supporting the Parilon journey. There’s plenty more to come.
